The Salvator Church (Polish Kościół Najświętszego Salwatora ) in Kraków is a Catholic church on the św. Bronisławy 9 in the Tiergarten district west of Wawel Castle Hill .
history
It is not known when the church was built. According to archaeological research, Viktor Zin took the view that it already existed in the second half of the 10th century with the plan of a Greek cross, that is, probably of Great Moravian origin. This would make the Salvator Church one of the oldest, if not the oldest stone church in Poland. According to Wiktor Zin, it is said to have been expanded in the form of a pre-Romanesque rotunda and in the Romanesque style at the beginning of the 12th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1148. After the damage during the Swedish Flood , the church was rebuilt in a smaller form and redesigned in Baroque style until 1680. In the 20th century, the baroque reconstruction was partially reversed and the church was given its Romanesque shape, albeit in a smaller form, with a baroque spire.
