The Elisabeth-Langgässer-Gymnasium (ELG) in Alzey is a school with a linguistic and musical focus. There are also various working groups (AGs) to choose from.

The oldest school in the area was initially called the Gymnasium on Frankenstrasse and has been called Elisabeth Langgässer since 1991 - in honor of the Alzeyer writer.

At the ELG, all pupils from the 5th to the 13th grade are taught in a school building.

classes

languages

At the ELG, English is taught from the 5th grade. For linguistically gifted pupils, there is an additional two-hour English-language course. This bilingual preparatory course is given by native speaker teachers. From the 7th grade onwards, the actual bilingual lessons follow in a social science subject (geography, history, social studies). This can be taken up to the Abitur. It is possible to get out of the bilingual train after the 6th or 10th grade.

The compulsory second foreign language (French or Latin) is taught from the 6th grade. Students interested in languages have the opportunity to learn a third foreign language from year 9: French, Latin or Spanish.

Brass project / music

The wind project is another focus of the school. Pupils who are interested learn a wind instrument within the normal music lessons in grades 5 and 6. Available are: oboe , flute , clarinet , saxophone , horn , trumpet , trombone and tuba . The students learn the necessary theoretical basics in the wind instrument project, with the focus being on making music together. Additional afternoon classes are planned for this in the first year. The wind project can be freely combined with other focal points (bilingual preparatory lessons, all-day school). In addition, there is the opportunity to develop musically in an orchestra, big band or rock band.
