The grammar school at the Roman fort Alzey is one of three grammar schools in Alzey ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). The name is derived from a late antique fort in the Danube-Iller-Rhein-Limes .
history
The grammar school emerged from the secondary school for daughters founded in 1870 , which was brought into being at the instigation of some Alzeyer families. In 1925 the school was officially recognized as a Progymnasium . It was expanded to a full high school in 1941. Just two years later, 18 female students graduated as the first graduate school year .
After the school was transferred to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1960 due to financial difficulties, the new building of what was then the girls' high school was inaugurated on November 14, 1964. As part of co-education , the grammar school was opened to boys in 1973. In the following year, the Mainz study level was introduced in the upper level. Due to the steadily increasing number of pupils and the resulting lack of space, the building of the former vocational school at Bleichstraße 15 was used for levels 5 and 6 in 1997 and the school was expanded in 2002 with an additional new building and extensive renovation measures.
To improve the situation for all-day students, a cafeteria was built, which has been used since 2013 together with the neighboring Elisabeth-Langgässer-Gymnasium .
Partnerships
The gymnasium has partnerships with schools in France ( Josselin ) and Sweden ( Uddevalla ).
