The Salzer Group is a medium-sized Austrian group of companies based in St. Pölten , which is active in the areas of paper , plastics and industrial services . It is owned by the Salzer family. The investments are bundled under the umbrella of TOSACO GmbH, into which the Salzer companies were spun off from the Salzer Holding in mid-2015. As a result, the Ueberreuter Druck division , which has been linked since 1866 and is managed by other Salzer family members, was again separated from the paper activities.

history

A few hundred meters from the oldest paper mill in Austria, the Lower Paper Mill on the Traisen , built in 1496, André Perner founded the Upper Paper Mill on the Traisen in 1579 on the site of a forge . Before it was bought by Kaspar Salzer in 1798, the mill had been owned or leased by eight families.

Kaspar Salzer, born in Želnava (Selnau) in the Bohemian Forest , was a trained tailor, but worked as an entrepreneur in the book printing business in Vienna , where he acquired the Jahn University Book Printing Company in 1784. He bought the paper mill in St. Pölten to ensure the supply and further growth of his company. The mill has been owned by his heirs ever since.

Today's paper machine is based on a system from JM Voith AG from 1924 and was fundamentally reinvested in the 1970s, from 1998 to 2001 and 2012–2013.

In 1972, the production of EPS (expanded polystyrene) began at the site of the former pulp mill .

TOSACO GmbH is also involved in denkstatt gmbH , the Central European consulting market leader in the field of sustainability.

production

Salzer Papier produces around 30,000 tons of paper at its Stattersdorf location. The focus is on wood-free factory printing papers , which are used in book production for black and white printing in various printing processes . Wood-free papers are papers that are based on cellulose, but no longer contain any lignin. These papers do not yellow with age.

Other products manufactured at the site are special papers in the design paper sector and greaseproof fresh fiber cartons for the packaging of food. Since 2010, Salzer Papier has also been offering wood-containing paper (Salzer ALPIN) as a commercial product for paperbacks.

Salzer Formtech produces molded parts from EPS at the St. Pölten Stattersdorf site. The production spectrum ranges from packaging parts to structural elements, lost formwork and specially coated molded parts for the electronics industry.

The Salzer Industrie Service GmbH was founded in 2008 from the outsourced maintenance department of the paper mill. It offers technical service in the field of electrical engineering, mechanics and mechatronics for the other companies in the Salzer Group, but also for numerous other industrial companies.
