Salt house in Winterthur

The Salzhaus is a concert venue in Winterthur . The club was founded in 1996 when three concert venues - the Salzhaus, Gaswerk and Kraftfeld - were opened in Winterthur in one year. Up to 600 people fit into the Salzhaus for concerts.

The building

The concert hall is housed in the former salt, grain and warehouse in the old freight yard and is a municipal monument . The building was built in 1861–63 by city architect Karl Wilhelm Bareiss according to plans by State Building Inspector Johann Caspar Wolff and is an elongated building with a gable roof , built in the neo-Renaissance style. The construction of this building was part of an agreement between the city of Winterthur and the Nordostbahn to establish a freight station south of the main station .

In addition to the salt house, Swiss Post offices are also housed in the same building.
