Sam (cherry)
Sam is a red variety of sweet cherries belonging to the cartilage cherries .
origin
The 'Sam' variety originated in Summerland , Canada . It was bred in 1953 at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Center by crossing the ' Windsor ' variety with an unknown partner.
Variety characteristics

The tree is very vigorous with a loose crown structure.
fruit
The stone fruit is medium-sized and oblong. The firm skin is shiny dark red when fully ripe. The very firm, juicy flesh tastes sweet but slightly bland. The fruit is burst-proof and easy to transport. It ripens in the 3rd to 5th cherry week .
Other characteristics
The flowering time is late. A fertilization partner is required. Other late-blooming cherry varieties are suitable, such as the ' Hedelfinger Riesenkirsche ', ' Büttner's Rote Knorpelkirsche ', ' Schneider's late cartilage cherry ' and ' Large black cartilage cherry '. The yields are high and regular but start late.
