The Hedelfinger giant cherry , also Wahler cherry , mirror Cherry , Nußdorferstraße Black , Abel Late , frogmouth , Glemser , Bigarreau of Oerdingen or short Hedelfinger called, is a sweet cherry from Germany. It belongs to the cartilage cherries .
origin
The Hedelfinger giant cherry variety was probably discovered as a chance seedling in Hedelfingen around 1850 . It is one of the most common types of cherry and is grown mainly in Germany, but also in France, Austria, Hungary and the USA.

The tree is very vigorous, healthy, resilient and very adaptable and therefore suitable for both sunny and cool locations .
fruit
The fruit stalk is medium-long and strong at around 50 mm. The stone fruit is medium to large in size, 23 to 28 mm high and 20 to 23 mm thick, depending on the hanging, oval, heart-shaped, the belly seam visible as a dark line, with a weight of up to about 13 grams. The tough and matt-shiny skin typical of cartilage cherries changes color from initially brown-red to purple-black when fully ripe. The flesh is firm, crisp and juicy, initially light red and, depending on the degree of ripeness, darker and darker - and finally almost black. The stone is medium-sized at around 11 mm × 7 mm and has a slim oval shape. The fruit tends to burst when it rains and ripens in the 5th – 6th centuries. Cherry week .
