Andreas Magerius

Andreas Magerius (actually André Magier ; * in Orléans ; † April 2, 1557 in Wittenberg ) was a French Lutheran theologian and prince educator in the Duchy of Pomerania .

He studied in Paris and Orléans. While studying in Orléans he had met the Pomeranian nobleman Jacob von Zitzewitz , through whose intermediary he came to Pomerania around 1540. On November 10, 1541 he was enrolled at the University of Greifswald . In 1542 he became a professor of philosophy.

On June 30, 1545 he was enrolled at the University of Wittenberg . After his return to Greifswald , he held theological lectures there.

On December 8, 1547, he was with John Knipstro a doctorate in theology doctorate . After the Augsburg interim , he belonged to a group of leading theologians in the country who advised the Pomeranian dukes on questions of religious policy. In the summer of 1550 he was elected rector of the University of Greifswald.

1552 he was appointed as tutor to the sons of Duke Philip I of Wolgast appointed. For health reasons he went to Wittenberg in 1556, where he died the following year.
