Joachim Mauritius

Joachim Mauritius (also Mörz, Moeritz or Moriz, * in Treuenbrietzen ) was a German lawyer and university professor.

Life

Joachim Mauritius was a doctor of both rights and in 1549 became a professor at the University of Greifswald . On October 25 of the following year Mauritius was elected rector, again in 1552. In 1556 he married Gertrud Stern, a woman from Stralsund . He left Greifswald with an unknown destination.

For the year 1576, a Dr. Caspar Moriz named as the Pomeranian Councilor, perhaps a son of Joachim Mauritius.

His daughter Anna married the later Stralsund councilor Georg Schmiterlow in 1580 . His brother Christian Schmiterlow wrote an extensive wedding poem in Latin about the marriage, a work known as Smiterloviadum .
