Sam Costa

Samuel Gabriel "Sam" Costa (born June 17, 1910 in Stoke Newington , London , † September 23, 1981 in Northwood , London) was a British singer and pianist in dance bands and radio presenter .

Costa began as a pianist in Bert Firman's dance band and was a popular singer in dance bands like Lew Stone and Maurice Winnick's in the 1930s . He also had his own bands. In 1939 he switched to the BBC as a presenter and speaking roles , first in the comedy series It's That Man Again (ITMA) with Tommy Handley , which ran until 1949. He also appeared in the BBC radio comedy series Much binding in the Marsh , which ran from 1944 to 1954 (including 1950/51 on Radio Luxembourg ) and had a rural RAF airfield as its subject, later transformed into a country club and even later moved to a newspaper office. He also had other regular shows, such as a request-concert program ( Housewives Choice ). In 1967 he switched to BBC 2 , where he hosted until the late 1970s.
