The Samarang Hill is an approximately 112 m high and prominent hill on McDonald Iceland in the southern Indian Ocean .
Scientists from a 1980 campaign by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions set up a surveying station at the top of the hill . It is named after the ship Samarang , with which Captain William McDonald discovered the McDonald Islands on January 4, 1854 .
