Samding Dorje Phagmo ( Tib . : bsam sdings rdo rje phag mo ) is the title of an important trülku line of the Bodong tradition of Tibetan Buddhism . The women who bear this title are the abbesses of Samding Monastery in central Tibet . The respective Samding Dorje Phagmo is traditionally regarded as an emanation of the Dakini Dorje Phagmo . The line of Samding Dorje Phagmos began in the 15th century with the princess of Gungthang Chökyi Drönme (1422-1455), who later became a nun .
The 12th Samding Dorje Phagmo fled to India in 1959, but returned to Tibet due to climatic conditions. She is Vice-Chairman of the Committee Tibetan Autonomous Regional People's Congress and the regional parliament.
