Sami ( Greek Σάμη ( f. Sg. )) Is a port city with 1,025 inhabitants and the administrative seat of the homonymous municipality Sami on the Greek island of Kefalonia . It is located on the east coast of the island and is the main port city of Kefalonia with connections to the mainland and Ithaca.

history

The Gnostic Epiphanes lived in Sami in the late 1st or early 2nd century .

With the founding of the Kefalonian Tetrapolis , the city became one of the four city-states. In 189 BC BC Sami resisted the Roman siege and was sacked the following year.

Sami is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Samo or Samos in ancient sources, which has led to confusion with the island of Samos .

Trivia

In 2001 the film Corelli's Mandolin was shot on site.
