Sami Açıköney (born April 10, 1904 in Istanbul , † unknown) was a Turkish football player and referee. Through his many years of work for Vefa Istanbul and as its own generation, he is associated with this association. He was an important part of the Vefa team that won the runner-up in the 1926/27 season of the Istanbul Futbol Ligi and thus achieved one of the greatest successes in the club's history. After his playing career, he worked as a football referee.

Açıköney belonged to the Vefa Istanbul squad from the beginning of the 1920s and played with this in the game İstanbul Ligi (German Istanbul League ). Since there was no national professional league in Turkey at that time, regional leagues existed instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which İstanbul Ligi (also called İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. With this club he was runner-up behind Galatasaray Istanbul in the 1926/27 season and was thus involved in one of the greatest successes in the club's history.

After his club merged with Kumkapı SK to Vefa Kumkapı SK in the summer of 1932 , Açıköney played another season for his club. For the 1932/33 season he moved to the reigning Istanbul master İstanbulspor . He played for this club until the summer of 1938.

National team

Açıköney began his national team career in 1925 with a commitment for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Polish national team . By October 1931, he completed three more international matches.

With the Turkish selection, Açıköney took part in the Balkan Cup in 1931 and was with this silver medalist.
