from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ingrid and Willi Kemp collection is a bundle of around 1,200 objects of contemporary art that the Düsseldorf art collector Willi Kemp and his wife Ingrid have been collecting since the 1960s.

These include works by Carl Buchheister , Karl Otto Götz , Bernard Schultze , Gerhard Hoehme , Winfred Gaul , Konrad Klapheck , Joseph Beuys , Rupprecht Geiger and Gotthard Graubner . The focus of the collection is on works from the Art Forms Informel and ZERO ( Heinz Mack , Otto Piene and Günther Uecker ) as well as collectibles by renowned international artists such as Lucio Fontana , Arnulf Rainer , Antoni Tàpies , Jean Tinguely , Ellsworth Kelly and Cy Twombly .

A representative selection of the collection was shown in 2001 at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf . In 2011, Willi Kemp donated his collection to the Düsseldorf Museum Kunstpalast , which presented the exhibition New Colors - A Selection from the Kemp Collection from March 26 to August 7, 2011 . Since the donation, the Museum Kunstpalast has been exhibiting selected groups of works from the collection, most recently works by Gotthard Graubner and works by Karl Otto Götz, Winfred Gaul, Bernard Schultze, David Rabinowitch and Carl Buchheister. The Museum Kunstpalast is showing “Masterpieces from the Kemp Collection” from April 2 to August 2019. On the occasion of this exhibition, an extensive two-volume work was published - In Dialogue with Art - with letters, conversations and memories of Willi Kemp with the artists in his collection.
