Samuel Belov

Samuel Belov (* 1884 in Jekatarinoslaw ; † May 17, 1954 in Rochester / New York ) was an American violinist, violist and music teacher of Russian origin.

Belov studied at the conservatory in his hometown before emigrating to the USA with his family in 1905 . There he continued his training with W. Edward Heimandahl . From 1908 he taught at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music ; later he was also involved in the city's Settlement School of Music . He was also a member of the Russian String Quartet , the Rich Quartet and the Kindler Quartet and principal violinist of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski .

From 1921 to 1949 Belov headed the viola department and taught violin at the Eastman School of Music , he was also conductor of the music school's orchestra for 25 years and director of the David Hochstein Memorial School of Music from 1929 to 1943 . He was also a founding member of George Eastman's Kilbourn Quartet .
