Samuel Friedrich Lutze

Samuel Friedrich Lutze (* 1752 in Cottbus ; † October 30, 1828 there ) was a citizen and cloth merchant in Cottbus as well as the holder of the General Decoration of Honor, 1st Class .

He came from a clothier family and was the eldest son of the citizen and cloth maker Christian Samuel Lutze (* December 28, 1740 - December 18, 1793) and his wife Marie Elisabeth Mann (* 1739 - January 17, 1827).

He received his education at the city school in Cottbus and then learned the craft of a cloth maker. He traveled a lot to learn new techniques and sell his products. It was through him that Cottbuser Tuche gained fame at trade fairs in Germany, which is why he laid the foundation for his fortune. He expanded his business, built new houses and also charitable institutions for the cloth making trade. He later became a city councilor and a member of the committees for regulating city finances. In 1775 he married Christina Elisabeth Lohmann .

Although he had already retired, he received the general medal of honor 1st class from the king on the occasion of his 50th civic anniversary.

Lutze died of breast disease in 1828.
