The Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex is a multi-purpose arena in Paynesville , a district of the Liberian capital Monrovia . The stadium, built in 1986, was renovated in 2005. It is mainly used for soccer games. Rugby and track and field competitions and cultural events also take place at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. The complex was named after Samuel Kanyon Doe (1951–1990), 1986–1990 Liberian President.
In September 2005, the Chinese Hunan Constructing Engineering Group Corporation began a renovation costing US $ 7.6 million . The original stadium capacity was expanded from 35,000 to 40,000 seats.
