Samuel Lerer
Samuel Lerer (born October 1, 1922 in Żółkiewka in Poland , † March 3, 2016 in Marlboro , New Jersey ) was a survivor of the Holocaust . He was one of 47 inmates of the Sobibór extermination camp in Poland who managed to escape after the Sobibór uprising in October 1943.
Lerer came to the Sobibór extermination camp in May 1942 on a transport of Jews. After he was selected as a labor prisoner at the ramp of the train station in Sobibór , he had to look after the horses of the SS men and later the chickens and geese for a long time . The care of the horses was supervised by Dabizja , one of the Trawniki men of the camp. Karl Frenzel commissioned him to fatten the geese and for this reason is said to have had a relatively good relationship with him.
After successfully escaping, he lived in Berlin for a few years. There he and Estera Raab recognized the SS man Erich Bauer in 1949 , who was then arrested and sentenced. Lerer later emigrated to the USA.
