Wilhelm Theodor Hundiker
Wilhelm Theodor Hundiker (born March 16, 1786 in Groß Lafferde , † February 21, 1828 in Bremen ) was a German teacher and educator .
Life
Hundiker received his first education in the educational institute of his father Johann Peter Hundiker (1751-1836) in Groß Lafferde. He then attended the Collegium Carolinum in Braunschweig. At the University of Halle he studied philology and theology , where he was particularly influenced by the classical philologist and classical scholar Friedrich August Wolf (1759-1824). He completed his studies in 1806 at the University of Helmstedt .
Hundiker returned as an educator to his father's institute, who had meanwhile set up the Philanthropin , an educational institution for higher classes , in Vechelde near Braunschweig . For the school founded in 1804, Wilhelm Theodorhundiker wrote detailed curricula that were oriented towards practical life and contained content such as modern languages, natural sciences , gymnastics and dance as well as commercial arithmetic and commercial geography.
After the school was closed in 1819, he accepted a position as director of the higher commercial and commercial school in Magdeburg . In 1822 he received a professorship at the commercial school in Bremen , where he also assisted David Christian Ortgies (1786-1859) in 1827 when he founded his school for the deaf, the Deaf-Mute Institute .
Wilhelm Theodorhundiker was the author of foreign language textbooks and a connoisseur of the old German language and literature, about which he gave lectures in the Bremen Museum.
A contemporary obituary attributed his death in 1828 to a rheumatic fever and "brainwash" , which he would have contracted from a cold while visiting the theater.
