Samuel W. Alderson

Samuel W. Alderson (born October 21, 1914 in Cleveland / Ohio , † February 11, 2005 in Los Angeles ) was an American physicist and inventor . He first introduced dummies for auto development.

Crash test dummies

Alderson founded the research laboratories named after him in 1950, which developed anthropomorphic dolls for testing parachutes and ejector seats on behalf of the military and the NASA space agency .

His " crash test dummies " initially met with little interest, but later the manufacturers were made aware of them on the basis of a consumer protection report from 1965.

Private life

Alderson died of bone marrow disease at the age of 90.
