San'yō Kasei Kōgyō KK ( Japanese 三洋 化成 工業 株式会社 , English Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. ) is a Japanese chemical company based in Kyoto .

The company was founded in 1949 as San'yō Yushi Kōgyō KK ( 三洋 油脂 工業 株式会社 , "San'yō Fette and Oils AG") and took its current name in 1963. In 1992, San'yō entered into a joint venture with Hercules Inc. , which was completely taken over in 2001.

The joint venture with Toyota Tsūshō , SDP Global , produces superabsorbent polymers. San'yō also produces various additives for polymers, coating agents for tablets, mild surfactants and polyethylene glycol .
