San Ambrosio is a small volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean . Together with the neighboring island of San Félix , it belongs to the Desventuradas archipelago .

The island was discovered by Juan Fernández in November 1574. The island is uninhabited and belongs to the Chilean province of Valparaíso .

fauna and Flora

On San Ambrosio there are still individual specimens of the endangered Juan Fernández fur seals ( Arctocephalus philippii ), which belong to the type of ear seals (also known as fur seals) and which occur exclusively on the Chilean islands of Alejandro Selkirk , Robinson Crusoe , San Félix and San Ambrosio. Furthermore, two types of pseudoscorpions are endemic: Chelanops pugil n. Sp. and Anaperochernes ambrosianus n. sp.

In terms of flora, the endemic Sanctambrosia manicata (Skottsb.) Skottsb., A small tree or shrub from the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) is remarkable .
