San Leonardo di Siete Fuentes

San Leonardo de Siete Fuentes is an originally Romanesque church in the village of the same name near Santu Lussurgiu in the province of Oristano in Sardinia .

San Leonardo, a Romanesque church from the 12th century, is located under ancient, gnarled holm oaks and poplars . The almost windowless exterior consists of moss-grown, porous trachyte , all around are portal arches and a decorative frieze. The interior is gloomy, unadorned and has arches and a wooden ceiling. The church was later rebuilt in a Gothic style and in the 13th century a monastery hospital of the Jerusalem Order of St. John was added.

Only a few houses and well-kept villas stand around the church in the dense deciduous forest on the slopes of the Monte Ferru volcanic cone . Mineral water gushes from Siete Fuentes (Seven Springs) . Water canisters are sold on the street to fill the valuable liquid, which is said to have healing properties. A large mineral water factory has settled here. In June, the most important horse show on the island is held in San Leonardo .
