San Pedro de los Pinos

San Pedro de los Pinos is a neighborhood in Mexico City . It is located in the southwestern part of the Benito Juárez district and is about two to three kilometers as the crow flies south of the Castillo de Chapultepec .

The district borders in the north on the colonia Tacubaya and the calle 11 de Abril , in the east on the colonia Nápoles and the Viaducto Río Becerra , in the south on the colonia Ciudad de los Deportes and the Eje 5 Sur (which in this section also includes Avenida San Antonio is called) and to the west to the Anillo Periférico . The metro station of the same name, located almost in the geographical center of the district, is served by line 7 . With Parque Pombo in the center and Parque Miraflores in the south, the quarter houses two green spaces.

history

The development of today's district began in the late 19th century as an extension of the existing villages of Tacubaya in the north and Mixcoac in the south. San Pedro de los Pinos is a quiet residential area that has always been considered an upscale residential area and still largely consists of one-story residential buildings.

Sporty nucleus

The Mexico Cricket Club , which won the soccer championship of Mexico in the 1903/04 season, was established as early as 1900 in San Pedro de los Pinos, which was still rural at the time and at that time an independent suburb of the Mexican capital .

In addition, the San Pedro Golf Club was established here, which in 1906/07, together with the Mixcoac Golf Club located just a few kilometers to the south, established the Mexico Country Club; the oldest country club in Mexico.

The soccer club México , Mexican champions in the 1912/13 season, also had its roots in San Pedro de los Pinos.
