The Sand Hill River is an approximately 85 km long tributary of the Labrador Sea to the east of Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The Sand Hill River rises at an altitude of 380  m about 40 km south of Sandwich Bay . The Sand Hill River initially flows 25 km in a northerly, later north-northeast direction. Later the river turns east. In the lower reaches, after about 25 km, the Sand Hill River changes its direction to the northeast. There are several lakes on the lower reaches. Eventually the river flows into Sand Hill Cove , a small cove on the east coast of the Labrador Peninsula . The estuary is about 45 km east-southeast of the parish of Cartwright . The Sand Hill River drains an area of ​​1142 km².

Fish fauna

In the river following types of fish: Atlantic salmon , lake trout , American eel , which Redhorse -Art Catostomus commersonii (white sucker), Three-spined and nine-spined stickleback , Alosa pseudoharengus (alewife) and Arctic Norway . The salmon stock in the river system is not considered to be threatened.
