Sandra Moon (* before 1970 in Dayton , Ohio ) is an American opera, lied and oratorio singer ( soprano ). Moon lives in Germany.

Life

The soprano studied singing at the College Conservatory of Music Cincinnati . She made her debut as Frasquita in Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's production of Carmen alongside Plácido Domingo at the Lyric Opera of Chicago . Her first engagement in Germany led the artist to the Stadttheater Aachen. There she sang u. a. Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier , and Pamina, Susanna, Oscar and Norina.

From 1992 to 1997 Sandra Moon was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . There she could be heard and seen as Mimi, Liu, Donna Anna, Manon and Maria Stuarda . During this time she still had guest engagements at major opera stages in Germany and abroad: New York, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Leipzig, Dresden and Vienna.

Highlights of her career included a. 1993 her appearance with the Munich Philharmonic, where she sang the soprano solo in the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms , her guest performance in 2005, as Ännchen in Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz , at Carnegie Hall and her guest appearances from 1997 to 2002 at the Met in New York . In the latter theater, for example, she sang Cleopatra in Georg Friedrich Handel's Giulio Cesare , one of the magical girls in Parsifal and - alongside Renée Fleming - Zdenka in Arabella .

Sandra Moon has been a permanent member of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since 1997 . Her repertoire there includes: Countess Almavia, Mimi, Antonia, Martha, Konstanze, Violetta, Amalia, Undine, Lady Harriet Durham, Fiordiligi, Pamina, Nedda, Madame Butterfly and Micaela.

In addition to her opera appearances, the artist is a popular song and oratorio singer who is particularly enthusiastic about the Baroque era. For many years she has regularly participated in the great baroque festivals in Germany, such as the international Handel festivals in Karlsruhe and Halle.
