Sanfu Motors

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sanfu Motors Industrial Co (also spelled San Fu or San-Fu ) was an automobile manufacturer in Taichung , Taiwan .

history

Sanfu Motors worked with several automobile manufacturers.

Vehicles produced included Subaru mopeds and utility vehicles . At least the commercial vehicles were sold with a Sanfu brand emblem. This cooperation is said to have been unsuccessful due to a lack of interest on the Japanese side.

For example, the Isuzu Bighorn was produced. It is not known whether the models were exported to Southeast Asia and the Middle East as planned. Part of the production was exported to the USA. Likewise, the assembly of the Subaru Domingo was agreed with Subaru in 1986 . At around the same time (1986), Renault successfully enforced that the cooperation with the GM subsidiary Isuzu was broken off. In contrast, the cooperation with Subaru has been proven for 1990.

The cooperation with Renault began in 1981 (or 1982). The models assembled and sold included the Renault 9 and 11 (from 1983), the Renault 19 , the Renault Express and the Renault Twingo . From 1998 the Renault Kangoo was also assembled. The production in Taiwan is said to have been of the highest quality compared to other foreign locations.

Under the model name Luxmore, Sanfu Motors produced and sold a Renault 9 with the interior and the rear of the Renault 19, which was powered by a 1.4 liter engine with 72 hp.

The Twingo models were exported to Japan. Sanfu Motors also planned to export to Colombia and Venezuela.

As of 1995, Sanfu Motors was 30% involved in founding Taiwan Isuzu Motors .

From 1997 to 1999, Sanfu Motors also manufactured the Hyundai Accent .

The business relationship with Renault ended in 2000 after Renault merged with Nissan. For its part, Nissan was involved in the Taiwanese manufacturer Yulon , which should now take over the local production of Renault models.

According to other sources, the company was dissolved in 1999. Production fell to 150 vehicles in 1999 and came to a complete standstill in the following year. The manufacturing facility was taken over by Formosa in 1999, according to another source .
