St. Vitus Chapel in Isteiner Klotzen
The Sankt-Veits-Chapel in the Isteiner Klotzen , called St. Veitskapelle or Vituskapelle , is visible from afar in the niche of a steeply rising rock face of the Isteiner Klotzes in the district of Istein of the municipality Efringen-Kirchen in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg .
The chapel named after St. Vitus is said to have been built in the 12th century as one of the original two castle chapels of Istein Castle, which was built in the 11th century . The small chapel, which was rebuilt after the castle was destroyed in 1650 and which was in ruins after it was blown up by the French occupying forces in 1947, was largely rebuilt in the 1980s as a result of a citizens' initiative.
