St. Joseph

The Catholic Church of St. Joseph is the meeting place of the Catholic community in Ronsdorf , since 1929 a district of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia / Germany . The church building that characterizes the district is located on Remscheider Strasse at the corner of Lilienstraße.

history

The previous building was hit during the air raid on Wuppertal on the night of bombing from May 29th to 30th, 1943 and burned out. Although it was then given an emergency roof, moisture penetrated the masonry, which ruined the structure and ultimately led to the demolition of the church. As an interim solution, the services were held in the emergency church. In place of the old church, today's church building was consecrated in 1969.

Main church

In the main church

The main church was built in concrete and consecrated in 1969. It is a rather sober functional building with a flat roof and three pyramid-shaped roof structures. The single bell tower is characteristic of the cityscape. It consists of staggered halves made of reinforced concrete, which are of different heights and which absorb the ringing of bells . South of the church are today's meeting rooms of the church and the rectory .

organ

The organ was built in 1970 by the organ builder Romanus Seifert and expanded in 2002 to include an electric setting system. The instrument has 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are electric.

Emergency church

As a temporary solution , the so-called emergency church was built, also known as the Kathol'sches Sälchen . After it was used for church services, it was a hall that was also used for secular events. It was demolished in 2008 in order to build single-family houses on the same site.

Lower church

In the lower church

The lower church is located below the actual main church and serves as the "everyday church". While the main church is only open for services, the lower church is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
