The St. Petersburg Herald is a German-language online newspaper and newspaper from Saint Petersburg , Russia. The newspaper goes back to the daily newspaper St. Petersburg Herold published in Tsarist Russia from 1871 to 1914 . Since 2008 it has appeared again as an online medium and emerged from the online edition of the Sankt Petersburgische Zeitung , which appeared monthly as a print medium and has since been discontinued.

Saint Petersburg Herald in the Tsarist era

The German-language newspaper Sankt-Petersburger Herold appeared as a liberal competitor to the Sankt Petersburger Zeitung from 1871 to 1914. At that time, it placed particular emphasis on critical reporting on the conservative tsarist power. The Herald brought an exclusive press review of the top news from the largest Russian daily newspapers at the time under the motto Our Press . Other content included city news, important news from the German Reich, business news, novels and monthly supplements on fashion and agriculture.

The herald is re-established in the new Russia

The St. Petersburgische Zeitung was founded in 1991 and between 2005 and 2007 cooperated with the online medium Russland Aktuell . At the beginning of 2008, the online edition and its own team parted with the print newspaper and revived the tradition of the St. Petersburg herald . The print edition opened a new website at a different address. At the beginning of 2009, the Herald established a media partnership with the national Internet newspaper Russland.ru , which had previously also worked with the rUFO news agency, the operator of Russia News. As part of the partnership, both newspapers exchanged their content. From 2010, the Herald appeared monthly in print and was thus, as in the Tsarist era, a direct competitor of the St. Petersburg newspaper . However, this has since been discontinued, the Herold still exists today as a pure online newspaper with irregular news publications.
