An Internet newspaper (also online newspaper , news portal or news portal ) is an online publication of a newspaper that is published on the World Wide Web . Internet newspapers are often linked to a print newspaper , but usually have their own editorial team; some articles then only appear in one of the two manifestations or in different versions.

In contrast to print newspapers, Internet newspapers are able to supplement their articles with multimedia content (e.g. video and audio contributions ). In addition, there are various interactive options such as searchability and commentability, but also techniques for internal and external networking of articles as well as permanent updatability. Further advantages are that Internet newspapers with regionally limited content, unlike local newspapers, are not subject to any circulation restrictions and can be accessed worldwide.

Internet newspapers generally suffer from the unwillingness of their recipients to pay and are often financed by advertising. Exceptions are offers that finance themselves as additional services to existing subscriptions or specialist articles that are subject to little competition.

Alternative business models are based on the installation of a paywall , whereby the content of the website or parts of it are only accessible for a fee.
