Santa Hates You is a German-Italian band that was founded in Hamburg in autumn 2007 . It consists of the Italian singer Jinxy and the front man of Project Pitchfork , Peter Spilles.

Name and philosophy

The band's name came about during one of the brainstorming sessions at the beginning of their musical career. It was chosen for both its memorability and its implicit criticism of the “ethical world we live in”. According to the band members, the sentimental figure of St. Nicholas is to be given a negative character, something that, according to the members, fits the band's artistic perspective. Instead of the "ideal world" propagated during childhood, in which the good always triumphs, the band name is based on the reality that exists in the eyes of Spilles and Jinxy, in which in adulthood, accompanied by a lack of values, it is more and more about money and Power go.

The human chemistry between Spilles and Jinxy, who first met in the cemetery in Hamburg-Ohlsdorf, also contributed to the formation of the band. Although Peter Spilles is best known for his work at Project Pitchfork, the band has emphasized in interviews that the two projects are independent of each other and sometimes address different segments of fans - which means that fans of Santa Hates You have both fans as well as critics of Project Pitchfork. According to Peter Spilles, one of the reasons why he became involved with Santa Hates You was because he had the motivation to "stir up the electronic scene" and to offer his diverse ideas new scope for creativity. Spilles believes that Santa Hates You is representative of his playful side, which is reflected in both the lyrics and the image of the band.

Genre and music

The band composes the melody at the beginning of new pieces, followed by the lyrics. According to Spilles, only those songs come into consideration for the lyrics, which also function as a purely instrumental song for the band members. The band makes electro-heavy and rhythmically oriented music. The musicians cite danceability as a primary goal, which is why it was also tested for its effect in clubs. In places, the music videos of Santa Hates You receive special attention, especially because of the humor, which Spilles compares “with a mixture of Rammstein's Till Lindemann , Martyn Jacques from the Tiger Lillies and the Joker interpreted by Heath Ledger ”. According to the band, it draws its inspiration from the literature and art of the 20th century, as well as artistic movements such as symbolism and surrealism .

Since its inception, the band has performed at several festivals in addition to their own concerts - including the Blackfield Festival, Amphi Festival , Elektroshokk and E-tropolis. The band has been supported by the Trisol Music Group record label since 2009 .
