Santa María del Tule (short: Tule ) is a small town in the Mexican state of Oaxaca and is 13 km from the city of Oaxaca City on the road to Mitla . Santa María del Tule has almost 8,000 inhabitants and is the administrative seat of the municipality of Santa María del Tule .
The tree giant " El árbol del Tule " ("Tree of Tule") is located in the village . This specimen of the Mexican bald cypress ( Taxodium mucronatum ) is the thickest tree in the world with a trunk diameter of 14.05 meters. It is also one of the oldest trees in the world (older than 2000 years). The circumference of the tree is about 58 m, the height about 42 m.
