Santa Rita de Cássia Futebol Clube , Santa Rita FC for short , is an Angolan football club from Uíge .

The club welcomes its guests to the 12,000-seat Estádio 4 de Janeiro , where local rivals União do Uíge also play their home games.

history

The association was founded on August 29, 2015 in the small village of Casseche near Uíge and named after St. Rita of Cascia , to whom a place of pilgrimage in Uíge is dedicated. Another football club called Santa Rita already existed in Angola in the 1980s, but the Santa Rita Namibe club came from Namibe , and nothing is known about a connection between the two clubs.

Santa Rita FC celebrated its greatest success in 2016 with promotion to Girabola , the top division in Angolan football. It was not until 2015 that the club was promoted from the highest division in the Uíge province to the second division, the Gira Angola .

On its first day of play in the first division, the team received the top club CRD Libolo on February 10, 2017 in their home country Estádio 4 de Janeiro . There was an accident when an access road collapsed and 17 people died in the crowd afterwards, 59 others were injured, some seriously.

At the end of the 2017 season, the club was relegated from bottom of the table.
