Santos León Herrera

Santos León Herrera (* 1874 ; † 1950 ) was President of Costa Rica from April 24, 1948 to May 3, 1948 . Herrera was married to Luisa Zavaleta and had two children with her, Rafael and Balvina León Zavaleta. Santos León Herrera was one of the first to graduate from the Liceo de Costa Rica . He studied engineering and worked as a teacher. His specialty was agriculture and surveying.

Herrera was a delegate to a constituent assembly in 1917 and was twice a member of parliament. In the third term of office of Ricardo Jiménez Oreamuno May 8, 1932 to May 8, 1936 he was government minister. He became the third deputy of Teodoro Picado Michalski and when he fled Costa Rica before the revolution of 1948, he was acting president.

On May 8, 1950, Herrera was buried in the Central Cemetery in San José.
