Santtu-Matias Rouvali

Santtu-Matias Rouvali (born November 5, 1985 ) is a Finnish conductor and percussionist . Since 2013 he has been chief conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2017 he has also been chief conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra .

The youngest of three brothers comes from a musical family: Rouvali's parents played in the Lahti Symphonic Orchestra. Before turning to conducting at the age of 22, he played as a percussionist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, among others. At the Sibelius Academy he was taught by Jorma Panula , Leif Segerstam and Hannu Lintu.

Rouvali has released recordings with the Oulu Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra.
