Saparua ( Indonesian Pulau Saparua ) is a 161 km² Indonesian island in the southwest of Seram in the province of Maluku and is one of the Lease Islands .

Together with the island of Molana, Saparua forms a district ( Kecamatan ) of the government district ( Kabupaten ) of the Central Moluccas .

The island of Haruku is neighboring in the west and Nusa Laut in the east . The capital is Saparua City on the south coast in Saparua Bay .

The basis of life is the harvest of nutmegs and cloves , as well as the use of the sago palms for the production of palm sago .
