Sapientza ( Greek Σαπιέντζα ( f. Sg. ), Italian Sapienza ) is an uninhabited Greek island off the southwest coast of the Peloponnese peninsula. It is located in the Mediterranean about 2 km south of the port city of Methoni (Messenia) and is one of the Inousses within the Ionian Islands .
One of the oldest forests (around 15,000 years old) in the Mediterranean is here.
On the east side of Sapientza there is a sheltered anchorage (Baia Longos) with traces of ancient settlements; these were once inhabited by pirates .
At the southernmost point of the island, a 26 m high, octagonal lighthouse provides a beacon that can be seen from afar for ships approaching from the west.
