Sappho Çoban

Sappho Özge Çoban (born September 7, 1994 in Karlsruhe ) is a German judoka .

Life

Sappho Çoban attended the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Karlsruhe and graduated from high school in 2012. From 2012–2016 she completed her training as a police master at the Kienbaum Federal Police Sports School and also trained at the Kienbaum Federal Training Center .

The B-team athlete in the weight class up to 57 kilograms has been practicing judo since 1998. She lives in Kämpfelbach , her home club is the Budo-Club Karlsruhe. Her younger sister Xenia (* 1998) is also a judoka.

successes

In March 2011, Sappho Çoban became German champion in the U20 category, after she had previously won the bronze medal in the national senior championships. At the end of the year she gained her first international experience at the Junior World Championships in Cape Town and won the U20 European Championships in Poreč the following year . At the end of April 2013 she finished third at the European Team Championship in Budapest . In October 2013 Çoban won the U21 world championship against the South American Jessica Pereira in Ljubljana as the first German junior. With the team she reached third place again a few days later. In early 2014 she won the national women's title in Ettlingen . Several top placements in the World and European Cup have been added over the years.

In mid-October 2014, Çoban was voted Junior Sportswoman of the Year 2014 for her success at the Junior World Championships .
