Sara Carter
Sara Carter (born July 21, 1898 as Sara Dogherty , † January 8, 1979 ) was an American country singer.
Sara was a member of the Original Carter Family , which played a leading role in country music between 1927 and 1943. She married AP Carter in 1915 . They were joined about ten years later by Maybelle Carter , who was married to a brother of AP's. The first formation of the Carter Family was complete.
After her divorce from AP in 1939, Sara remarried and retired from the music business for a few years. In 1952 she teamed up again with her ex-husband. Together with their daughter Jeanette, they resurrected the Carter Family for a short time.
In the 1960s Sara performed with Maybelle at folk festivals, where they were enthusiastically celebrated as legends.
According to Erhard Grundl , Sara Carter would be the only one who could dispute Bob Dylan 's position as the greatest singer of the last hundred years.
