The Sarabia (formerly also Sarabbia) is a river in Oaxaca , Mexico . It flows into the Río Coatzacoalcos about 30 kilometers north of the city of Matías Romero , which in turn flows into the Gulf of Mexico . According to the records of Alexander von Humboldt and Heinrich Berghaus, the mouth bears the name Paso del Sarabia (Malpaso) and is therefore 45 meters above sea level. On the right-hand side of the river, about halfway along the Sarabia, is the place of the same name, Paso Real de Sarabia . Johann Wilhelm von Müller writes in his notes, which he summarized in the book Travels in the United States, Canada and Mexico , that the river from the level of the village Sarabia to its confluence with the Río Coatzacoalcos is wide and fairly deep . A little further lies the Sarabia plain , a, as Johann Wilhelm von Müller writes, magnificent prairie .
