Sarah Catherine Darwin Vogel (* 1. April 1964 in London as Sarah Darwin ) is a British botanist .

Life

Sarah Darwin is a great-great-granddaughter of Charles Darwin . In 2009 she submitted her dissertation on the systematics and genetics of tomatoes in the Galapagos Islands to Sandra Knapp , James Mallet and Ziheng Yang at University College London .

She is the Vice President of the Galápagos Conservation Trust . Together with Iris Peralta she was the first to describe the endemic species Solanum galapagense . She is married to Johannes Vogel , with whom she has two sons.

In 2009 she was a participant in the research trip of the sailing ship Stad Amsterdam , initiated by the Dutch television broadcaster VPRO , which was supposed to recreate Charles Darwin's voyage with the HMS Beagle . Experiments were carried out on board by various scientists, which were reported in 35 episodes up to May 30, 2010 and in blog posts.
