Sarah Levy-Tanai

Sarah Levy-Tanai ( Hebrew שרה לוי-תנאי; * 1911 in Jerusalem ; † October 3, 2005 in Ramat Gan ) was an Israeli composer and choreographer.

Life

Levy-Tanai was born in Jerusalem in 1911 to Yemeni parents. She became known for her dance and musical interpretations of Yemeni and Jewish folklore as well as modern Israeli stories. Her compositions The Story of Ruth and My Love's Voice were known, for example .

In 1950 Sarah Levy-Tanai founded the Inbal Dance Troupe . In 1973 she was awarded the Israel Prize for Art, Music and Dance. Sarah Levy-Tanai died on October 3, 2005 in Tel Aviv-Ramat Gan (Israel).
