Sarah Sagerer (born February 8, 1996 ) is an Austrian basketball player . She plays a position on the forwards .

Life

Sagerer is the daughter of Georg Sagerer and his wife Adelheid. She grew up in Schörfling am Attersee and began her basketball career at the SK Chamber at the age of twelve. Her older sister Dagmar, also her role model, was the reason for her initial interest in basketball.

At the age of 16, Sagerer decided to do an exchange year at Olentangy Orange High School in the US state of Ohio . Your team won the District Championship and advanced within the state to the semi-finals, in which they lost to the two-time winner Twinsburg High School.

She had to leave Ohio State during her senior year due to visa regulations. Then Sagerer joined The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida .

In the 2014/15 season, Sagerer was appointed to the Atlantic Sun All Freshman team . The day Sagerer first started, she scored 23 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. She was awarded the Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week and Swish Appeal as well as the Mid-Major co-Performance of the Night .

In the following 2015/16 season, the Austrian got off to a slow start due to illness. However, she finished that season strong and was awarded a place on the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team .

In the 2016/17 season, Sagerer contributed to the fact that her university team won the main round championship in the history of women's basketball for the first time. She was named Defender of the Year and was part of the Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference . Sagerer ranked first in their Atlantic Sun Conference in the statistical categories of blocks, rebounds and defense rebounds. She was also ranked among the top players in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, finishing seventh in blocks .

In the 2017/18 season, Sagerer had to miss a year because she suffered a back injury. She made a full recovery and eventually came back. In addition, she obtained her bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship .

In the 2018/19 season, Sagerer was named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and ASUN Defensive Player of the Year . On average, she averaged 15.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks and played 28.1 minutes per game. In addition, she completed her master's thesis in business administration. She received several awards and was accepted into the Challenge in the Music City All-Tournament Team as well as in the Hatter Classic All-Tournament Team . On January 8, 2019, Sagerer suffered a torn cruciate ligament, which led to an early end of the season for her.

In the summer break of 2019, she was signed by the Italian first division club Use Scotti Empoli. At the beginning of the pre-season phase, the contract between Empoli and Sagerer was terminated.

International competitions

Sagerer plays for the Austrian national team.

U18

At the FIBA U18 European Championship Division B, Sagerer led the Austrian selection in the categories of points, rebounds and blocks. On average, she scored 13.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per encounter.

3-on-3 basketball

In 2011 Sagerer played for the Austrian U18 team in the 3-on-3 basketball game and took part in the first U18 World Cup in Italy. In 2017 she was part of the Austrian 3-on-3 national team that took part in the Europe Cup elimination round, but missed the qualification after losing to France with one point.
