Sarah Scheurich (born October 1, 1993 in Crivitz ) is a German boxer . She was runner-up European middleweight champion in 2014 .

Career

Sarah Scheurich started boxing as a teenager, supported by her father. She is a member of the BC Traktor Schwerin and trained under Andy Schiemann mainly at the Olympic base in Schwerin. After graduating from high school in Schwerin in 2013, she was accepted into a sports promotion company of the Bundeswehr. She is trained there by Michael Timm . She developed into a powerful boxer who competes in the middle or light heavyweight division.

In 2010 she took part in the German youth championship (U 19), but lost in the middleweight division in the quarterfinals against Lisa Cielas from BR Eintracht Halle (Saale) on points and came in 5th place. In 2011 she won a German championship title for the first time in the same age group and in the same weight class with a demolition win in the third round in the final over Roberta Jendretzke from Dortmund. In the same year she went to the middleweight division at the World Youth Championship in Antalya / Turkey. There she defeated Beatrix Pesti from Hungary by breaking off in the 2nd round and Alexandra Glusac from Serbia by breaking off in the 1st round and was defeated in the semifinals against Jaroslawa Jakuschina from Russia on points (4:18). She won a bronze medal with it .

In May 2012 Sarah Scheurich was used in the 7th AIBA World Championship for women (elite class) in Qinhuangdao / China in the non-Olympic light heavyweight class. She lost there in the round of 16 against Jenny Lalremliani from India just on points (10:11), with which she was eliminated and came in 9th place. In 2012 she was unable to take part in the German women's championship (elite class) due to an injury.

In June 2013 she was the first German champion in the light heavyweight elite class in Straubing. In the final she landed a techn. KO victory in the 3rd round over Daniela Stark from Mühlhausen. A month later she reached the final of the 7th EU women's championship in Keszthely / Hungary in the light heavyweight division with a victory over Wioleta Michalska from Poland, in which she beat the multiple ex-world and European champion Mária Kovács from Hungary on points lost (0: 3 RS). She won the silver medal with it .

In 2014 Sarah Scheurich showed herself to be further improved. That was already evident at tournaments in Hamburg, where they were in middleweight a. a. Timea Nagy from Hungary and Lidia Fidura from Poland defeated and in Wittenburg, where she beat Sinead Kavanagh , Ireland and Andrea Strohmaier , her toughest German competitor. At the European Women's Championship (Elite) in Bucharest, she won the middleweight division over Katerina Schambir from Ukraine and Leila Jawadowa, Azerbaijan on points. In the final, however, she lost to the experienced Nouchka Fontijn from the Netherlands on points. She became vice European champion.

After a long break from injury, Sarah Scheurich started at the 1st European Games in Baku in April 2015. She won a bronze medal there in the middleweight division with points wins over Ana Patrascu, Romania (3: 0 RS) and Sema Caliskan, Turkey (2: 1 RS) and a point defeat against Nouchka Fontijn (0: 3 RS).

In April 2016, Sarah Scheurich just missed qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro at the only European Middleweight Olympic qualification tournament in Samsun / Turkey with a 3rd place.

In May 2016, she competed in the 9th AIBA World Championship in Astana. She showed good performance there in the middleweight division and defeated Schoira Zulkaynarowa from Tajikistan in her first fight by technical knockout in the 3rd round. In the next round, however, she met the 2012 Olympic champion and reigning world champion Claressa Shields from the United States, who she was able to stand up to for a long time, but from whom she was finally stopped in the 4th round.

At the German championship 2017 Sarah Scheurich had to admit defeat on points in the middleweight finals against Irina Schönberger from AV Speyer 03.

She showed a convincing performance in March 2018 at the International Round Robin Women Tournament in Rostock, a team tournament. There she first defeated the Polish champion Hanna Solecka with a 5-0 judge's vote, then beat Dariga Schakimowa from Kazakhstan, who won third place in the 2016 Olympics with the same result , and finally over the German champion Irina Schönberger, who she put in the corner in the second round sent.

At the European Championships 2018 in Sofia, Sarah Scheurich in the middleweight division was enough to win a point in the quarterfinals over Elżbieta Wójcik from Poland (5-0) to win a bronze medal. In the semifinals, she lost against Olympic runner-up Nouchka Fontijn from the Netherlands on points (0: 5).
