Sarah Sutton (born December 12, 1961 in Basingstoke , Hampshire ) is a British actress with character roles in television and theater. She was best known in the 1970s and 1980s for her roles in the mystery television miniseries Der Mondschimmel and the television series Doctor Who .

life and career

Sarah Sutton was born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in 1961. After studying ballet, Sarah began her acting career at the age of seven, where she took on a role in the Phoenix Theater production of "Winnie the Pooh". In the early 1970s she played a number of TV roles, including in the British television series Menace , Play for Today , Ten from the Twenties , Oil Strike North and Westway .

In 1973, she played the title role of Alice in the television adaptation of director James MacTaggart Alice Through the Looking Glass based on a novel by Lewis Carroll . In the 1975 television miniseries Late Call based on a novel by the writer Angus Wilson, she played the role of Myra Longmore.

In 1978 she cast the director Dorothea Brooking in the BBC's lavishly produced children's drama series Der Mondschimmel for the lead role of blind Diana. James Greene , Caroline Goodall , David Haig and John Abineri were seen by her side .

Sarah Sutton then returned to her acting degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a part-time study.

In 1981 Sarah Sutton was asked to audition for the role of Nyssa in the television series Doctor Who . Sutton got the part and played the role in 48 episodes through 1984.

In the 1980s she then played more theater. Among other things, she went on tour in 1986 with the play Policy for Murder .

In 1984 she married Andrew Johnson and when their daughter Hannah was born a few years later, she took a creative break, but returned in 1989 with a small role in the television series Casualty .

In Stuart McDonald's short film Doctor Who: Dimensions in Time , Sarah Sutton was seen again in the role of Nyssa in 1993.
