Saro Galentz (born October 15, 1946 in Yerevan , Armenia ; † October 26, 2017 there ) was an Armenian painter and university professor. He was founding president of the Galentz Cultural Foundation and professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Yerevan.

life and work

Galentz was born the son of the painter Harutjun Kalenz and the painter Armine Kalenz . In 1946 his parents and his older brother Armen moved from Lebanon to their homeland, Armenia. In 1965 he graduated from the State Art School in Yerevan. From 1965 to 1970 he studied painting and textile design at the Yerevan State Institute of Fine Arts and Theater. Since the early 1970s he lived and worked in Moscow. In addition to exhibitions, he realized two bas-reliefs for the entrance of the electroplating factory in Tambov , Russia , and designed the exhibition hall "Soviet Armenia - 60 Years" in the All-Union Exhibition for Economic Achievements in Moscow . In 1986 he designed a 15 m² stained glass window in the entrance hall of the Supreme Council of the USSR in Moscow. When the independence movement began in Armenia in the late 1980s, he returned to Yerevan. Since 1991 he has been head of the painting and drawing department at the Armenian State Art Academy. He has participated in the annual exhibitions of the Union of Artists of Armenia since 1992. From 1999 to 2002 he was secretary of the Armenian Artists Association.
