Sases

Coin of Sas

Sases was an Indo-Parthian king who ruled what is now Afghanistan and Pakistan around 85 AD .

The history of the Indo-Parthian Kingdom can almost only be reconstructed on the basis of coins, which means that the succession of kings remains very speculative. Historical events can only be presumed. King Sases is known only from a few coins minted in Seistan , Taxila and Kandahar . Its coins are similar to those of Gondophares , so it has been suggested that Sases followed this at least in Seistan. In Taxila, on the other hand, he was probably the successor of King Abdagases I. Sases refers to himself as Gondophares on the coins . So the name of the latter ruler has become a ruler title. Sases was probably defeated by a Kushan ruler ( Vima Takto or Kujula Kadphises ).
