Satake Yoshiatsu ( Japanese 佐 竹 義 敦 ; born November 24, 1748 in Akita ; died July 6, 1785 ) was the 8th  daimyō of the Kubota fiefdom of the Satake family . As a painter in the “Dutch style” ( 蘭 画 , Ranga) he is known under the name Satake Shozan ( 佐 竹 曙 山 ) or Satake Dairoku ( 佐 竹 大 麓 ).

Satake followed his father Yoshiharu as daimyo over Kubota (Akita) in the province of Dewa in 1758 . In 1773 he invited Hiraga Gennai from Edo , a technical expert and painter in the western style, to solve the problems with the mines in Akita. At that time Satake had already received instruction in painting from his vassal Odano Naotake . Satake painted, now supported by Gennai, pictures of flowers, trees and birds as well as landscapes. He did not break away completely from the tradition of the Kanō school and from the images of Shen Quan . So Satake's work represents a compromise between East and West.

In his very conservative days it was a bold step for Yoshiatsu as head of a fief to not only deal with Western art, but also to practice it himself. Through his activity, the European style of painting spread in the fiefdom, so that a number of local artists painted in this style, which became known as "Akita Ranga".

Other painters include Satake Yoshimi ( 佐 竹 義 躬 ; 1749–1800), Yoshiatsu's younger brother, the aforementioned Odano Naotake and Tashiro Tadakuni ( 田 代 忠 国 ; 1757–1830). In 1778 Satake wrote the Gahō Kōryō ( 画 法 綱領 ), the first work on Western painting to be written in Japan. The painting "Rosa Lotus" ( 紅蓮 図 , Guren-zu ) in the Akita City Museum is a representative work.
